Exclusive Movember-Themed Content will Air Across Anthem Properties AXS TV, HDNET MOVIES, GameTV, Fight Network & Game+, Headlined by Films Starring Mustachioed Movie Stars Charles Bronson, Burt Reynolds, Chuck Norris & More
Los Angeles (October 20, 2020) – Anthem Sports & Entertainment, Inc., a global multi-platform media company, and its family of networks are proud to partner with Movember®—the leading charity dedicated to men’s health around the world—in support of the organization’s efforts to help men improve their physical and mental well-being, empowering them to live happier, healthier and longer lives. During the month, AXS TV, HDNET MOVIES, GameTV, Fight Network and Game+ will feature special Movember content and PSAs, headlined by a block of classic films starring some of cinema’s most famous mustachioed men every Monday in November on AXS TV, HDNET MOVIES and GameTV.
Since 2003, Movember has proudly stood at the forefront of men’s health advocacy, funding over 1,250 men’s health projects across the globe, challenging stigmas and stereotypes, driving research, and revolutionizing the way that vital health services reach and support men. Though not often talked about, men from all walks of life and every corner of the world are facing a serious health crisis affecting both their physical and mental health. In the United States alone, men die from largely preventable illnesses more than five years before women, and account for four out of five suicides at a staggering rate of 78%.
By investing in the critical realms of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention, Movember seeks to raise funds and awareness and start important conversations about the issues that affect men most—revitalizing the face of men’s health, preventing thousands of premature deaths, and giving families more time to spend with their beloved fathers, brothers, sons, partners, and friends. While the movement is known for its iconic moustaches grown by male participants from November 1 to November 30 as a means of bringing attention to men’s health issues, Movember offers a wide variety of alternatives inviting others to host their own fundraisers, run or walk 60 miles in honor of the 60 men who commit suicide around the world each month, or “Mo’ Your Own Way” with other creative and unique ways to get involved. As part of the Movember festivities, AXS TV presents five facial follicle-filled films every Monday in November at 9 p.m. ET. The roster includes Burt Reynolds as a reformed hitman desperate to outrun his past in the 1987 thriller Malone (Nov. 1); then, Tom Selleck stars as an expert marksman fighting his way through the Outback in Quigley Down Under (Nov. 8); martial arts master Chuck Norris races to stop a terrorist plot in The Octagon, with Lee Van Cleef (Nov. 15); Sam Elliott helps Whoopi Goldberg take down a drug ring in Fatal Beauty (Nov. 22); and Keenan Ivory Wayans leads a rag-tag group of ‘70s heroes into battle against a crime kingpin in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka (Nov. 29).
Additionally, HDNET MOVIES presents a two-pack of prickly pictures airing in primetime each Monday throughout November. The lineup features Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Jamie Lee Curtis in the ensemble comedy crime caper A Fish Called Wanda (Nov. 1); Charles Bronson as an aging assassin with a brash apprentice in The Mechanic (Nov. 8); Mario Van Peebles as a mercenary hunting the man who killed his father in Posse (Nov. 22); Clint Eastwood as a lawman on a quest for vengeance in Hang ‘Em High, and Charles Bronson as an outlaw who finds that truth is stranger than fiction in From Noon Till Three (Nov. 29); among others.
And GameTV gets in on the action every Monday with eight films of its own, featuring Kevin James as a security guard with an epic ‘stache in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, and Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder in the killer buddy comedy See No Evil, Hear No Evil (Nov. 1); and Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck in the beloved coming-of-age hit Dazed And Confused, and David Spade as a mulletted everyman searching for his folks in Joe Dirt (Nov. 8); followed by Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in the acclaimed medical drama Awakenings, and Jack Black as a mustachioed mortician in Bernie (Nov. 15); Edward Norton and Colin Farrell in the hardboiled cop drama Pride And Glory, and John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bruce Willis in the Quentin Tarantino crime classic Pulp Fiction (Nov. 22).
During the month, AXS TV, HDNET MOVIES, GameTV, Game+, and Fight Network will air a series of Movember PSAs exploring different themes such as encouraging men to “Spot The Signs” and reach out to friends in need; empowering men to open up about their feelings and become “A Man Of More Words,” featuring personal anecdotes from entertainers and influencers Jonathan Bennett, Logan Henderson, Matthew Santoro, and Scott Sire; and inspiring men to not be ashamed to ask for help in the powerful “Suicide Notes” segment, featuring true stories from men who came back from the brink.
“The Movember initiative has long served as a vital resource raising funds and awareness for every facet of men’s health,” said Len Asper, President and CEO of Anthem Sports & Entertainment. “Anthem is proud to be back again this year and further grow our partnership, broadcasting a diverse blend of fun and informative Movember-themed programming across all of our networks. In recent times, especially, we have seen firsthand how important it to is to maintain both physical and mental health, and we hope that this month-long event will encourage and inspire our viewers to join us and take part in this global movement that has shed invaluable light on the most serious issues impacting men today.”
“We’re thrilled to once again have the support of AXS TV, HDNET MOVIES and GameTV. The movie line up will showcase some fun and iconic mustachioed films but also helps raise awareness about the serious issues around men’s health. There’s still a lot of work to be done when it comes to men’s health, but we’re grateful to have partners committed to helping men around the globe live healthier lives,” said Mark Hedstrom, Movember’s US Executive Director.
