Matt Pinfield, best known for hosting MTV’s show 120 Minutes, suffered a massive stroke on January 6, 2025, at the age of 63. Pinfield hosted 120 Minutes from 1995 until 1999 and then returned for MTV2’s revival of the show from 2011 to 2013. He has been working in radio in recent years on the Los Angeles radio station KCSN and LA’s KLOS radio station. He is also a cohost of the AXS TV show The Power Hour.
TMZ reported that his daughter Jessica filed for a temporary conservatorship over her father, asking for permission to handle his health and financial concerns. She cites worries that his current girlfriend may withdraw money from his bank accounts during this time.
In addition, KCSN told listeners a few weeks ago, “The SoCal Sound’s legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence. We are fully supportive of Matt and hope to have his energetic knowledge of rock n’ roll back on the air soon.”
A day before his stroke, he attended Marilyn Manson’s star-studded birthday party. One of his friends, Marvelous 3 frontman Butch Walker shared an update on Instagram and said, in part, “Matt is a legend in the music business, he can school ANYONE in rock n roll trivia, and he is a helluva wonderful human. Matt suffered a severe stroke recently and has been in the hospital for weeks now. I’m not asking you for anything. I’m just asking you to keep him in your thoughts.”
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
